CoreLogic’s Home Value Index (HVI) shows a 1.2% increase in May, marking three consecutive months of growth. Sydney leads the recovery with a 1.8% rise, and this upward trend is seen in other major cities. The scarcity of housing supply and growing demand are driving the surge in home sales. In May, the number of homes advertised for sale decreased, causing a continuous decline in total listings as buyer demand exceeds supply.
Despite a surprising increase in unemployment in April, the property markets have shown resilience amidst economic fluctuations. While some markets faced challenges in response to rising interest rates, CoreLogic predicts a positive outlook as rates stabilize. Improved consumer sentiment is expected to boost housing market activity, including purchases and sales.
Data from Suburb trends shows that over 98% of property sellers made a profit despite the housing market correction. Remarkably, around one in eight properties nationwide sold for over three times their original purchase price.
