Overseas buyers:

In 2023, there has been a surge in Chinese property investors increasingly looking to buy in Australia as they compete with other foreign investors for a share of the market. This could potentially accelerate the country’s housing supply shortage.

So far this year, Chinese buyers have invested a total of $3.4 billion in approved residential real estate purchases, marking a significant 40% increase compared to the previous year, as reported by the Foreign Investment Review Board’s most recent findings.
